Register for Antelope Youth Running Club Spring Track and Field

March 19 through early June 2019

This program is for runners in Kindergarten through 8th GRADE. We will be a Bullseye Running partner club.

This track and field program is for beginners and experienced runners. The kids run at practice of course and will be taught technique and strategy and will get a chance to learn a little bit about some of the field events. Running shoes to train in (not racing spikes) are strongly suggested. For those middle school runners planning to race, we encourage you to consider racing spikes as well; we can help guide you in recommending spikes.

The runners will have an opportunity to DO ALL OF THESE:

• receive an Antelope Youth Running Club racing singlet,

• participate in weekly group practice sessions with knowledgeable and experienced coaches,

• compete in meets with other junior runners,

• join the post season program that will compete at regional and national running competitions

Practices will be held twice weekly, each TUESDAY and THURSDAY tentatively from March 19 through May 30, from 5:30pm to 6:45pm at Allegany College of Maryland (12401 Willowbrook Rd, Cumberland, MD 21502). Practices are not required but are encouraged so kids can improve. Meet at the bleachers at the 400 meter track. Practices will typically include a warm up, stretching, drills, and a workout in practice groups based on various things like age, ability, health and experience. We will put the kids in practice groups and it is likely we will switch them to other practice groups during the season so please support our changes!

The team will compete at several events during the season and runners are encouraged to be a part of the team and test their speed and stamina at these meets but most importantly enjoy the team atmosphere on race day. Most of the meets are in Frederick County on Sunday afternoons with the first meet tentatively scheduled for April 7 at Brunswick High, our Bullseye Running organizations host meet is scheduled for April 28 at Reservoir High near Columbia so PLEASE try to make a day of it and participate if you can.

Runners’ age when competing at the meets is based on how old they will be as of 12/31/19; not their age the day of the race and compete in 2 year age groups. Runners 6 and under can only participate in the long jump and 50 yard dash, 7-8 year olds can participate in 3 events, 9-10 year olds can participate in 3 events, 11-12 year olds can compete in 3 events, 13-14 year olds can compete in 4 events.
